Hey folks, it's a short one this week, but here's what I've rounded up for ya. Have a great weekend!
Update! OMG, you gotta read this. Will Allen is the king of composting and urban food producing! Swoon...
Some excerpts:
“Creating soil from waste is what I enjoy most,” he said. “Anyone can grow food.”
When you’re producing a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of food in such a small space, soil fertility is everything. Without microbe- and nutrient-rich worm castings (poop, that is), Allen’s Growing Power farm couldn’t provide healthful food to 10,000 urbanites — through his on-farm retail store, in schools and restaurants, at farmers’ markets and in low-cost market baskets delivered to neighborhood pickup points. He couldn’t employ scores of people, some from the nearby housing project; continually train farmers in intensive polyculture; or convert millions of pounds of food waste into a version of black gold.
"Last year, he took in six million pounds of spoiled food, which would otherwise rot in landfills and generate methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Every four months, he creates another 100,000 pounds of compost, of which he uses a quarter and sells the rest."
Great post from the Peak Oil Hausfrau this week.
I want to see this movie.
And for no other reason than I saw Sam Beam perform this last night, here is Iron and Wine covering the Postal Service's 'Such Great Heights'. Swoon....

You were there too? Wasn't it a great show? Hard to beat an outdoor summer concert where you have the sun setting over the water behind you and amazing music coming from the stage.
Oh my gosh, wasn't it great?!
Even with the sound of the Metric show carrying over from the other stage and the really drunk talk-y girl next to me, it was pretty awesome. Sunset over the river with Sam Bean = magic. Sigh....
